There will be times when you do everything right, when you make the right decisions, when you take the right steps, and you're going to get screwed anyway. You didn't do anything wrong. You couldn't have planned for this to happen. But it happened. And there's nothing you can do to change it. The only thing you control is how you react to the situation, how you recover from whatever they put you through, how you choose to move on.
Do you start hating the world, hating yourself, hating everyone around you? Do you self-destruct, do you spin, do you throw away all your hard work because you are filled with so much anger? Or do you make the best of your situation? Do you decide that you are not going to let your situation get you down for long and keep moving forward, keep going, keep your hopes high?
The hard truth is, no matter what you do, no matter how perfect you are, no matter how much you plan or overthink, sometimes you're going to get screwed. Instead of letting that scare you, you should let it comfort you.
After all, this means you shouldn't be too upset with yourself when your world turns upside down, because some things are completely out of your control. Some things are not your fault. You are not to blame. You are not a failure. You didn't deserve this to happen to you. It just happened.
In a way, understanding that shitty things are going to happen to you is inspiring. It's why you shouldn't spend your whole life inside your comfort zone. It's why you should strive to take risks. It's why you should follow your heart, follow your dreams, follow your gut, because even if you do all the "right" things, there's still a chance you could end up in a shitty situation. You might as well do what makes you happiest. You could also reach for the stars and see where you land.
The truth is that your life isn't always going to be the way you planned it. You're going to have to be flexible. You're going to need to find ways to bounce back when you go through grief or failure or loss. You're going to need to figure out how you can grow from what has happened to you.
As hard as it is to hear, sometimes you're going to get screwed. Sometimes you're going to be disappointed. Sometimes you're going to get stuck in a situation you never deserved to be
This doesn't mean you're a failure or a screw-up. It's just part of life. And another part of life is finding ways to accept what has happened to you and move on. You can't be upset about the shit that life has thrown at you forever. You have to move on. You have to refuse to give up. You have to learn to handle the bad stuff and put up with the good stuff.
