Perhaps self-acceptance begins with focusing on the parts of yourself that you already love

It was clear that the universe needed me to understand what self-acceptance meant, but more importantly, the universe needed me to understand what self-acceptance meant to me....

What is self-acceptance? Googling it, we find that it is the act of accepting ourselves unconditionally.

At first glance, this process sounds easy; however, lately I have noticed that the word follows me around like a dog in search of its owner. Conversations, magazine articles and even a fortune from the Chinese restaurant have made me realize that I needed to understand self-acceptance.

So, I did what I had to do: I had a Chardonnay and started researching this topic.

As I searched for more information, I found countless articles saying the same thing: "Self-acceptance is the art of accepting oneself", or "self-acceptance is the act of accepting oneself unconditionally".

Self-acceptance is undoubtedly an important point in self-acceptance, but something that caught my attention was that none of the articles mentioned the importance of accepting our good qualities and inner traits, focusing all their attention on accepting our flaws.

It struck me as odd that it is not considered a "self-acceptance practice" to embrace our good qualities and characteristics that make us feel good about ourselves, even though they are obvious.

Perhaps it's because we tend to pay little attention to the role they play in our self-acceptance as a whole.

We focus so much on accepting our flaws that we hardly take the time to appreciate what makes us unique and valuable.

We often minimize our abilities for fear of being perceived as selfish or pretentious.

However, self-acceptance is a personal experience that has nothing to do with others.

For me, self-acceptance involves accepting my good qualities and letting them shine.

It is a reflective practice that reminds me why I am unique and that there is no one on the planet like me.

Instead of focusing on our flaws and shortcomings, we should focus on our positive traits, skills and passions.

Self-acceptance means accepting that I am a "tough guy" with a killer smile and a big heart who can accomplish anything I set my mind to.

I no longer focus on the things that are out of my control or that I can't change, but instead cultivate and celebrate what makes me shine.
